The Landscape Alley is without exaggeration one of the brightest and the most special areas in the Ukraine's capital. Hidden in the cozy yard in the Old Kyiv's very center, it is the favourite strolling place for Kyiv residents and the true magnet for capital's numerous guests, who always list this uncommon sight in their tourist itineraries. The Landscape Alley draws not only with its picturesqueness, but also with unique combination of token historical locality, amazing nature and true art!
The Landscape Alley was designed as a part of the History and Architecture Reserve 'Ancient Kyiv', which was planned to be created on the Old Town's territory in the late 20th century. Beside the Alley, several museums were supposed to be built: Town Building Museum, Archeological Museum and History Museum. However, in the upshot nothing, but the Alley project, was implemented.
Designed by the famous architect Abraham Miletsky, it stretched along the line of defensive constructions that used to protect the city in the Kyivan Rus times. This place was chosen because the ancient hills of the Upper Town command fascinating views of the famous Podol, the oldest historical district of Kyiv. It is these fantastic landscapes that gave the Alley its name.
The Landscape Alley caught the fancy of locals, who came here to rest from the city fuss, and of Kyiv guests, who looked with admiration at the Old Town's sights, right away. However, it wasn't until the year 2009 that the unique park with twisting paths, unusual fountains and original sculptures was laid and the Alley was turned into the inimitable fabulous corner.
The thirty-meter-long wall was adorned with the bright mosaic picture depicting the very long centipede cat in whose 'jaws' children like to be photographed. Pyramids, built of many-colored pillows and crowned with fairy-tale angels, appeared along the Alley. And near these pyramids one can see amazing fountains and unusual animal-shaped benches. This fairy world in Kyiv's downtown was created by the famous city painter and sculptor Konstantin Skretutsky, the author of the capital's most original monuments.
