Take a chance to discover one of the oldest towns in the world (around 2500 years old) – Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi with its Medieval fortress built in the XIV century.
The town changed names many times through the centuries - Tyra, Belgorod, Ak-Dido, Akkerman, etc. Almost each of them means white because the town is built with a white stone. Even today the name of the town Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi means “the White City at the Dniester River”.
The fortress used to be a mighty defensive fortification with a regular garrison, perfectly supplied to sustain long sieges. The fortress incorporates several interesting and at the same time very complex architectural solutions. It stands on a high rocky coast at the estuary of Dniester, surrounded by a deep moat from the three sides. Today the fortress is one of the best preserved architectural monuments of the Middle Ages and is protected by state laws.
We start our tour to Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi at 9:00 am from Odessa and return around 3:00 pm. On your way to the site, you will get acquainted with the Odessa region, and see its resorts, beautiful landscapes, and vineyards. We will also drive along the borderline between the Dniester and the Black Sea – a unique place where the fresh river water meets the salty seawater.
