Take a chance to discover one of the oldest towns in the world (around 2500 years old) – Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi with its Medieval fortress built in XIV century.
The town changed names many times through centuries - Tyra, Belgorod, Ak-Dido, Akkerman etc. Almost each of them means white, because the town is built with a white stone. Even today the name of the town Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi means “the White City at the Dniester River”.
The fortress used to be a mighty defensive fortification with regular garrison, perfectly supplied to sustain long sieges. The fortress incorporates a number of interesting and at the same time very complex architectural solutions. It stands on a high rocky coast at the estuary of Dniester, surrounded by a deep moat from the three sides. Today the fortress is one of the best preserved architectural monuments of the Middle Ages and is protected by state laws.
